About Jamie Barker
Jamie Barker is a Christian children’s author and songwriter based in Nottingham, England, and the founder of Gospel Growers.
He creates Bible-based books, music and resources designed to help children engage with Scripture, understand what it says and remember what they learn.
As a father, many of Jamie’s ideas have grown out of reading the Bible with his own family and thinking about how biblical events and truths can be communicated to children in ways that are engaging without losing sight of the biblical text.
His guiding question is simple:
Does this help children understand what God has actually revealed in His Word?
Writing for young readers
Jamie writes Bible-based books for children and young readers, combining accessible storytelling with a strong emphasis on the biblical record.
His books include:
The Journey of Daniel
A retelling of the life of Daniel for young readers, following his journey from Jerusalem to Babylon and exploring the remarkable events recorded throughout the book of Daniel.
Women of Faith: Ruth & Esther
Two biblical stories introducing young readers to Ruth and Esther — women whose lives demonstrate faith, courage and trust in God through very different circumstances.
Eliab’s Journey: From Egypt to the Promised Land
A Scripture-grounded historical fiction story following an imagined young Israelite named Eliab through the events surrounding the Exodus and Israel’s journey toward the Promised Land.
Unlike a direct Bible retelling, Eliab’s Journey uses an imagined character and narrative perspective while keeping the events recorded in Scripture as the foundation of the story.

Writing with Scripture at the centre
Jamie’s approach begins by asking what the Bible itself actually says.
Familiar Bible stories can sometimes acquire details through tradition, artwork, films and repeated retellings that are not actually found in the biblical record.
Jamie wants his work to encourage children to notice that distinction.
Some Gospel Growers books closely retell biblical accounts. Others use historical fiction and imaginative storytelling to explore the world surrounding those events.
Where imagination is used, Jamie believes it should be clear that it is imagination.
The biblical events come from Scripture. The imagined elements serve the story.
The aim is always to encourage young readers to go back to the Bible and explore the record for themselves.
Music for children
Jamie is also a songwriter creating Bible-based music for children and families.
His children’s music includes projects such as Little Bible Heroes and Kingdom Kids, with songs inspired by biblical people, events, passages and themes.
Music can help words and ideas remain in a child’s memory long after they first hear them.
Jamie’s hope is that these songs do more than entertain: that they help children remember Scripture, ask questions and develop a growing interest in God’s Word.

Why Gospel Growers?
Jamie founded Gospel Growers to bring his books, music and other Bible-based resources together around one purpose:
helping children grow in their knowledge and love of God’s Word.
Gospel Growers creates resources for parents, families, homeschoolers, churches, Sunday schools and Christian educators who want to help children engage seriously and joyfully with Scripture.
The resources themselves are not intended to replace Bible reading.
They are intended to lead children towards it.
As Jamie puts it:
“It should be a doorway into the Bible, never a replacement for it.”
